UK's Next Move toward International Regulation?
Many countries around the globe are quickly acting to both embrace and regulate
the online casino gambling industry as it expands exponentially. Once the United
States imposed nationwide regulations that targeted financial centers, many
online casinos that were content to operate sites targeted at U.S. players are
quickly moving into foreign markets. The UK is one nation that has already begun
to regulate the industry and harness sites.
Last November the United Kingdom announced that it planned to pursue
international regulations pertaining to online casinos… but so far it doesn’t
look like the UK’s initiative has any firm support and following. The UK’s
support for regulation of the online casinos stems from the large amount of
fraud and corruption that the industry can easily foster because the internet
seamlessly crosses international borders.
For that reason, international legalization, regulations and restrictions would
provide a certain level of protection to online casinos players that is
currently nonexistent in the industry. Considering that the prospect of
international online casino regulations are still a long-way off though, the UK
has already passed legislation that will take effect later this year.
