New Increased Limits for Florida Poker Rooms
Now that online casino gambling is illegal in the United States, state
governments have more time to focus on other gambling measures, and Florida did
not waste anytime pushing Bill 752 which has increased poker wagering at
land-based casinos and card-rooms across the state. Florida is one of the states
that is more progressive in terms of gambling – the state has several new
non-tribal land-based casinos as well as a hand-full of tribal casinos.
But Florida Governor Charlie Crist had no firm opinion on Bill 752, so for that
reason the bill passed into law and will take effect on July 1. The new poker
regulations apply to the land-based casino and gambling operations solely
because the U.S. government has included internet poker as a part of the
anti-online casino legislation known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act.
According to Florida state procedures, the Governor has a set time-period to
either approve a bill, or veto. If the governor chooses to take neither action
within the specified time-frame, the bill then automatically passes into law.
This is the case with Bill 752.
Specifically, the new legislation will raise all of the previous limits set on
poker. Single bet limits are set at $5 per hand now, different from the 2003
restrictions. Also, Texas Hold’em has become increasingly popular in the last
few years, so poker sites are relieved that the buy-in is now a maximum of a
$100 buy-in.
