Righting the Online Casinos and Bets in the EU
The online casino and the gambling industry in general has simply boomed over
the past year in the European Union, and some of the countries have begun
protective legislation. But that concept of limiting access to online casinos
and betting markets is against the entire idea of the European Union that
stresses free trade and movement between all countries. So as the EU Commission
begins to rule against counties like Sweden, Germany, France, and Greece, other
company’s are getting ready to move their services into those countries as soon
as the EU Commission makes firm decisions.
Basically, countries like France are operating with a clear advantage over other
countries. According to the well-known online casino bookmaker Ladbrokes, “The
EU Commission is showing strong resolve on this issue and we urge them to
continue to enforce the EU Treaty. It is quite wrong that Ladbrokes must compete
against the French monopoly-run Euro Millions lottery in the UK, when we are
banned from operating betting and gaming services in France. We are also keen to
compete in other markets in the EU, particularly Sweden and Greece where the
betting markets are established,” says Managing Director John O’Reilly.
Other companies operating in the highly competitive online casinos industry are
essentially echoing those sentiments exactly. And some company are already
benefiting from the European Commission’s stance on the whole issue. An Irish
bookmaker, Paddy Power is boasting an increase in shares since many in the
industry are expecting that the bookmaker will be one of the first to enter the
currently restricted countries once able. Many companies are poised on the edge,
ready to expand online casino booking sites, translate languages, and alternate
content once new markets are open.
