Poker Bot Testing
Technology is certainly changing in the online casino and poker industry. Gaming
software developers are constantly challenged to come up with new cutting edge
games that will draw in players and keep them coming back to the online casinos
for more play. Now though, research into poker bots could mean a that internet
poker players have to significantly hone and alter their skills in order to win
against the poker bot. A current “man v. machine” constant was admittedly tough
for two internet and land-based poker pros.
Universities around the world have begun to research how to design a poker bot
that is can genuinely imitate the game. Up to this point, when online casino
poker players choose to play against a computer, they have the advantage because
bluffing is such an integral part of the game. Just earlier this year an
Australian University announced they had found a way to teach the bots to bluff
in the game rather than play the statistical odds. This new technology that
allowed the bots to learn the game of online casinos poker without any
pre-programmed rules in future years may revolutionize the internet poker
industry.
In the “man v. machine” contest, the Univeristy of Alberta used Laak and Eslami,
two recognized poker professionals, as the human team, and they had four
sessions of poker play to try and come out ahead of the poker bot. And the
results may just surprise online casino players – the poker pros just barely
managed to beat the poker bot. Rather than counting on the fact that traditional
computer software plays by statistics, the pros commented that they were forced
to adapt their traditional poker tactics to accommodate the poker bots style.
Even though the poker bot did lose against the human team, the narrow margin
that the human online casino players won with indicates that the research and
efforts put into designing and programming the poker bot are leading in the
right direction.
