Online Casinos in Italy Change Requirements
Italy is a prime example of a country really coming to terms with the
invasiveness and inevitability of the online casino gambling industry. Just
within one year the Italian government went through a period of change much like
what the U.S. is struggling with. Starting with a ban on the online casinos
servicing Italians, the government quickly amended the ban in favor of
regulating and licensing the internet gambling sites. Now though, the Italian
government has announced plans that are aimed at ensuring that internet betting
and online casinos in the country are not used for illegal activities like money
laundering and fraud.
That is not to mean that the Autonomous Administration of State Monopolies (AAMS)
plans to place any extreme restrictions on online casino gambling. Basically,
the AAMS announced that changes to the country’s remote gambling laws include
restricting using cash for wagering at the online casinos. Players will be
limited to using credit cards and internet gambling sites approved and licensed
by the Italian government.
The AAMS at this point has only announced the intention to restrict the type of
financial transactions – there is no concrete decision or legislation written as
of yet. Most in the online casinos industry expect that the new restrictions
will be effective in 2008. Remote gambling carries many risks associated with
it, especially when it involves internationally companies. The potential for
fraud is becoming more and more of a liability for both the online casino
companies, and the governments seeking ways to limit the risk and control an
industry that is so very pervasive in nature.
