Global Expansion for the WSOP
The World Series of Poker event has been an institution in Las Vegas, and the
United States, since 1970. And now the WSOP event coordinators have announced
plans for an European WSOP event in just a few months. The entire gambling
industry has begun to really expand into new regions, and the WSOP is merely
following in those footsteps. Other areas that have recently announced new
global events include online casinos, bingo sites, skill gaming companies, and
other gambling related industries.
With the WSOP event in the United States wrapping up, now players can prepare
for an equally prestigious event in Europe in early September. This tournament
is also simply great for online casino poker players who attend the event
because Americans can now longer get their poker fix online between tournaments
because of online casino and internet gambling legislation in the United States.
Jeffrey Pollack, the Commission of the WSOP, commented on the plans for even
further expansion in the coming years. He says, “It's our first step forward to
meaningful international expansion. I think long-term - long-term being the next
12 to 36 months - we are looking to launch other events around the world.”
Part of the reason that the WSOP expansion is planned over the course of a
couple of years is to ensure that the event maintains the prestige it has gained
over the last 37 years in the U.S. Right now, the U.S. event is the largest
poker tournament in the world. Players from all walks of life attend,
celebrities, poker professionals, and online casinos poker players.
Pollack assures that the other WSOP tournaments will have the same extensive
planning and precise execution that has made the Vegas tournament so very
successful.
