Class Action Lawsuit Against NETeller
Now as it looks like the NETeller saga is coming to an end, United States online
casino players are banning together and planning legal action against the
e-wallet NETeller because accounts have been frozen since January of this year,
and many just don’t believe that NETeller has place release of the funds as a
high priority. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is responsible for
the freeze that NETeller initially placed on the accounts, but now, eight months
later, online casinos players are simply losing patience and no longer willing
to wait for the release of funds and are gathering support for a class action
lawsuit against NETeller.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office has just brought conclusion to the federal legal
action that resulted in criminal charges against NETeller and the company’s
agreement to forfeit nearly a billion dollars in illegal revenue from online
casinos and betting activities. NETeller co-founders were arrested earlier this
year because they purposefully and deliberately laundered money and enabled
offshore online casino gambling in direct violation of the UIGEA.
Many frustrated NETeller account holders have met in a Yahoo! group chat-room to
discuss the situation and brainstorm ways the online casino players affected can
re-coup the US $94 million of frozen player accounts. Part of the recent
frustration came on the heels of an official announcement from NETeller that the
company has no plans to pay interest on the money that has been frozen – when
the company does release the funds players will only get back the amount in the
account.
Once talk of the class action lawsuit began, some suspect that representatives
from the online casino e-wallet are infiltrating the Web group and attempting to
discourage the forming of the Class Action litigation. Currently the U.S.
players who fromed the idea for the lawsuit are encouraging any and all
disgruntled players with frozen funds to join the litigation and put money
toward the group’s plan to retain a lawyer and begin the lawsuit soon.
Part of the message for group members looking into joining the lawsuit against
the online casino e-wallet “"Our initial membership in the first phase is 150
members. Going forward, we will open the lawsuit to all US Neteller customers
once we have established momentum securing a legal fund and international
representation."
