UK Betting Restrictions None Too Soon
As of September online casino players and internet bettors in the United Kingdom
will be protected from identity theft and other criminal activities because of
new restrictions from the UK Gaming Commission. And it seems like those new
precautions are none too soon considering the UK terrorists that used credit
card fraud, identity theft, and online casinos sportsbetting sites to launder
money and fund terrorist activities.
Three terrorists were arrested last week on charges of stolen credit card
information and money laundering as the lesser of the charges – some of the more
severe charges included allegations that the suspected terrorist were using the
Internet to “incite murder.” The terrorists plead guilty to the chares and will
await sentencing. But that is not the most disturbing parts for online casino
gamblers, and regular bettors.
The anti-terrorist investigators who investigated and arrested the terrorists
found that the terrorist’s personal computers contained more than 37,000 stolen
identities complete with credit card numbers and personal information.
Additionally, the terrorists had already complete 350 transactions using the
stolen information. This is startling news for the online casino sportsbetting
sites that the terrorists used.
The UK has singled out the online casino gambling and betting industry as
potential place to foster criminal activity, so the new September restrictions
are coming at just the right time to ensure that other internet gamblers and
bettors do not also suffer from stolen identity and credit card theft.
The three arrested who stole the information and used the online casinos and
sportsbetting sites are: Tariq al-Daour, Wasneem Mughal and Younes Tsouli. Al-Daour
is the one alleged to have the 37,000 stolen identities and credit card numbers
on his computer.
