The Asian Expansion has Begun
It isn’t just the online casino industry planning to expand gambling operations
into the lucrative Asian Pacific region. In fact, now the land-based and online
poker industries have plans in the works to really begin tapping the potential
of that region. Since the U.S.’s backing out of the online casinos market, most
internet gambling companies have announced concrete plans to either open a
location somewhere in Asia, or to begin tailoring internet gambling sites to the
Asian community. And now, in late 2007, a popular online poker gambling site is
hosting the Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
PokerStars.com is an online casino site based out of the Isle of Man and is
arguably one of the largest internet poker gambling sites on the Web. And to
really kick off the online poker gambling expansion, PokerStars will start the
two-day event in Manila, Philliphines on August 24, 2007. Then, the online
casinos poker site has announced a tournament in Korea a month later starting on
September 28, 2007.
Both of these events have a $2,500 buy-in and the tournaments will be held in
some of the top land-based casinos and hotels in the world. The online casinos
site PokerStars has announced only one other location, but has also commented
that more poker tournament locations will be announced as the Tour approaches.
The last announced location is one of the largest on the tour. With a $5,000
buy-in, the Sydney, Australia Tournament is expected to be a major hit among the
online casino poker players. And though these buy-ins are slightly high for the
average online casino player, PokerStars has already begun to offer daily
qualifying tournaments where players can win a trip tot eh Philippines
tournament.
