Online Casino Affiliates Targeted
The Swedish government is quickly reigning in the past issues that country had
with online casino gambling and the complying with EU Commission regulations.
Now though, the renewed emphasis on online casino legislation in Sweden has led
to a new taxing structure that will specifically target not just the internet
gambling sites but also the affiliated sites that send Swedish players to
gambling related sites.
Often online casino information sites will use dense sites packed with relevant
information as a way to lure in potential gamblers. Then, the sites sell
advertising space to online casinos and profit off of the players the
information site sends to the gambling sites. This is by no means an illegal
activity, but considering that the internet gambling sites make a profit off of
the entire business, the Swedish government is now taking action with proposed
taxes that will specifically target these types of sites.
The Tax Board in Sweden is anticipating that the new taxes will bring in
millions of dollars to the government which will undoubtedly supplement the
decrease in revenue the only currently legal government controlled online casino
gambling site will lose once internet gambling is opened to all of the EU
countries. The Swedish government was hesitant to allow outside online casino
companies access to the internet gamblers who only had the one government
monopoly to choose.
The Tax Board is firm on this new idea to tax the affiliated sites, and Dag
Hardyson, Project Leader at the Tax Board, commented on why the Board has
initiated this new focus. He says, "It's not individual poker players we're
after, it's sites who live on sending players through to gaming sites."
The government in Sweden is going through a intense changes in regards tot the
online casino industry, so the coming months, as more internet gambling sites
pop up, it will definitely be interesting to see where the government focuses
next in efforts to raise more gambling related funds for the country.
