Former Executives Just Wait
With the U.S. online casino and gambling industry still in turmoil, the former
CEO of BetonSports is spending his house arrest time preparing for a marathon
and raising money for charity. David Carruthers, the former CEO of BoS has been
in U.S. custody for nearly 18 months at this point because of the online casinos
gambling and betting laws in the U.S. Carruthers is on house arrest as he awaits
trial, and because the case has dragged out for so long, he is using his time to
get into shape and to raise as much money as possible for charity.
BetonSports was in the news for the past year and a half beucase the U.S.
Department of Justice (DoJ) has arrested several of the top executives in the
company on charges of violating U.S. online casinos and gambling legislation
that prohibits offshore companies from offering internet gambling services to
American players. Carruthers was the first of the online casinos betting
company’s executives to get arrested – he was on a trip back from Europe with a
layover in the U.S. when he was arrested and put into custody. The DoJ issued a
sealed warrant for his arrest, so he was not aware that he was wanted in the
U.S. when he landed on U.S. soil for his layover. Another BoS executive, in fact
the BoS founder, Gary Kaplan was arrested in Dominica and then extradicted to
the U.S. to face charges. Unlike Carruthers, Kaplan has been denied bail or
house arrest and remains in custody as his case waits trial.
The only thing that these men can hope for is a strong defense team that will
convincingly argue their case against in the U.S. courts. And perhaps for the
better, the longer that the online casinos betting case waits, the more likely
it is that the U.S. will alter its current draconian internet betting and
gambling legislation. That may or may not help the two men’s cases considering
that Carruthers was arrested n 22 felony charges, many of which were related to
the online casino gambling industry.
