Cheaters Never Prosper
Granted an interview with the former Managing Editor of Bluff Magazine, one
might ask if the cheating scandal at the Full Tilt online casino poker site was
worth the costs. Both Chris Vaughan and Sorel Mizzi were caught in a cheating
scandal that has both damaged their reputations in the online casinos poker
industry and caused some concerns among players. Just like the land-based
gambling industry, the internet poker industry suffers from concerns that the
companies can not adequately guard against cheating scandals.
At the same time though, considering that the two gentlemen caught cheating were
poker professionals and had stellar reputations in both land poker tournaments,
and at the popular online casinos, it is surprising that Mizzi and Vaughan were
willing to damage their reputations for a tournament. And beyond just the
reactions of the online casinos industry, the two gentlemen have had other
setbacks.
Mizzi has a long road back before all of his tournament winnings stop becoming
suspect, and even then, the young poker professional (just 21 and already a
force to be reckoned with online or and the land poker tourneys) will have
suffer from speculation about his honesty for much of his career.
And as for Vaughan, as the Managing Editor of the top poker magazine in Europe,
he has now lost his credibility and his job. Bluff media announced that based on
the reactions of the online casinos industry, and with the nature of his deceit,
the company was forced to fire him.
And whereas Vaughan is certainly a skilled poker player and has won his fair
share of the online casino and land-based poker tourneys, he was not considered
one of the top in the industry and certainly was not a career poker player like
Mizzi. Mizzi has time to reestablish himself in the internet poker industry, and
to reestablish credibility. Vaughan on the other hand may very well have cost
himself any future career in magazine editing.
