Online Casino Opposes Canadian Clause
The online casino industry has some questions for the lawmakers in Canada after
a liberal Senator voiced his concern that a small clause in a new bill could
have a lasting effect, and perhaps even a ban on internet gambling and betting
in the country. Now the non-controversial bill that was going to be passed with
little comment is in fact an international issue that various online casinos are
concerned could force them out of the Canadian internet gambling industry.
One of the top online gambling companies, PartyGaming recent vocalized concerns
and sought an answer from parliament that the bill would be suitably clarified.
The CEO at PartyGaming, Mitch Garber, commented on the online casino and clause
issue, noting that the recent talks with the Canadian officials is focused on
seeking clarity. Garber remarks, “The goal is to seek clarity, to ensure that if
Parliament is to make an amendment, and is to make this amendment, that the
intent of the amendment is not subject to interpretation, is not ambiguous, and
that it is clear exactly to whom and what the amendment is meant to apply.”
By nailing down exactly who will be affected by the new clause that the bill
proposes would then protect online casinos like PartyGaming, which definitely
have Canadian players, from suffering from future legislation. An ambiguous
clause like the one proposed leaves the online casino industry in Canada
vulnerable, and that is something that the internet gambling companies feel
should be addressed before the bill is passed into law.
