Asian Land and Online Casinos
The Las Vegas of the East, Macau has now surpassed its U.S. based competition
just this year, making Macau the largest land-based gambling venue in the world.
With many of the same benefits as Las Vegas and far more room for expansion,
Macau is looked at as the future of land gambling, and even online casinos
gambling. Asia is the target for many online casino companies looking to find a
niche market within the Asian-Pacific region, and the established land-casinos
in Macau make it a likely launching place for internet gambling.
Macua simply has incredible growth potential even now – most industry analysts,
and a Credit Suisse report, predict that the land-gambling market could grow by
as much as 23 percent (possible more) each year until 2010. This would then put
Macau firmly ahead of Las Vegas as the largest land gambling market in the
world. Then, to take into consideration that the U.S. has banned online casinos,
yet Macau is more open to internet gambling means that Macau will additionally
benefit from predicted surges in internet gambling activities in the
Asian-Pacific regions.
Macau’s land gambling market specifically has grown over the past year, and
though much of the gambling industry is similar to the Las Vegas market (Macau
has similar hotels – the Venetian to name one), Macau also has a more
international flavor because it is not controlled by the U.S. Dr. Stanley Ho, is
one of the main Asian land-gambling operators (and who knows if there are plans
to perhaps enter the online casino gambling industry) and he “has a lot of land”
and benefits from a 37 percent market share.
