New Politician Against Online Casinos
Activists in the online casino industry are well acquainted with the politics of
U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (R- AZ). And unfortunately for many of the lobbying groups
that have actively pushed for new legislation that would neutralize the 2006
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, Kyl has moved up in office. Kyl is
one of the most outspoken politicians currently in office, and is largely
responsible for the current highly debatable U.S. legislation that has caused
international problems and concerns at the World Trade Organization.
Kyl was unanimously approved as the GOP’s Assistant leader much to the chagrin
of many democratic politicians who support online casinos and see Kyl as a bit
extremist in his politics regarding the gambling industry.
Specifics of Kyl’s new position in the Senate includes the following duties:
enfore party discipline, count votes, and monitor debate and parliamentary
tactics. Many are leery about his new position because this is an election year,
and he is unaccountably biased against online casinos.
Kyl remarks on his new position, "I assured my colleagues that I would work as
hard as Trent, that I would do everything I could to assist our leader in the
work that we have to do in the remaining days of this session and, of course,
throughout the next session."
On the other side of the issue is a positive for those in Arizona with no stakes
in the nation’s online casino and internet poker debate. With Kyl in such a
prominent position most assume that politics benefiting Arizona will make it
higher on the Senate’s agenda.
