Online Casino Gambling Getting Tougher
It is no secret that the United States wants to put an end to all offshore
internet gambling activities, as evidenced by recent legislation and
prosecutions. Similarly it is also no secret that online casino gambling still
occurs in the United States in spite of the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act (UIGEA). Though there are only a dozen or so online casinos that
actively accept U.S. players, those dozen are the saving grace for many
Americans who are willing to go through the hassle of navigating around the
UIGEA. But it looks like internet gambling for U.S. players has suffered another
set back – another e-wallet has left the U.S. market.
Eco card functions similarly to Neteller in that it processes transactions
between online casinos and players. It also works for players wanting to
complete non-gambling related transactions but primarily U.S. players used the
international Eco Card for internet gambling reasons. But like Neteller the
company has decided to firmly exit the online casinos market and no longer
process transactions between players and the only dozen sites still accepting
players. This is a huge blow to players, but ultimately a smart move for Eco
card considering the impact that U.S. investigation had on Neteller.
Eco card sent an announcement aimed specifically at U.S. players that stated
that Americans could still use the Eco Card Services, but that the company could
no longer be used by Americans at online casinos. So, by the end of August, the
24th to be exact, Eco Card will is stepping out of the U.S. internet gambling
industry. The release also noted that Eco Card can still be used by non
Americans for online casino gambling as well as any form of e-commerce.
Eco Card is just the latest company to follow the trend in the online casino
industry to cite the UIGEA and the general unrest it the industry as a reason to
no longer service Americans. Though many industry analysts and internet gambling
companies are hoping for legislation soon that would neutralize the UIGEA, in
the mean time the safest thing to do is leave the market and hope for the
opportunity to re-establish with American players once the market re-opens.
