Neteller Announces Release of Funds
Neteller is one of the first companies to come out on the other side of United
States Department of Justice investigation, and though it took a couple of
weeks, the company is beginning to repair the relationship with the companies
U.S. and international online casino related account holders. In mid-July the
U.S. Attorney’s Office, and Neteller spokespeople announced that Neteller
reached a settlement with the USAO and could subsequently now release the funds
that were frozen at the beginning of the investigation in relation to criminal
fraud and money laundering because of the online casinos ban in the U.S.
Since the online casino player accounts were frozen in January, most players
were just looking for a little more information along the way than what they
got. Even considering that the company was under USAO most agree that Neteller
dropped the ball with the infrequent and uninformative messages to players
wondering when the company could and would release funds.
To begin making amends with online casinos players the CEO of Neteller, Ron
Martin, addressed all of the companies account holders to formally apologize,
and to announce that the company had already begun to disperse the frozen
monies. Martin went on to address other concerns that many in the online casino
industry had raised on blogs and gambling forums. He noted that the company had
followed the public opinion sites and was aware that many players were
dissatisfied with how the situation was handled but that the investigation with
the DoJ required sensitivity.
Another key part of Martin’s address to online casino account holders via a
YouTube video was the fact that Neteller acknowledges that it will have to work
to regain the trust of account holders – many of whom have gone so far as to
propose a class action lawsuit against Neteller because the company is not
paying interest on any of the frozen account money.
And though some in the online casinos industry, and previous Neteller users
still have questions that were not addressed, the personally address by Martin
was a great way to begin to heal the company’s relationship with its users.
