Micro-Nation Operates Online Casino
It may seem more like news of the weird rather than legitimate news, but the
Principality of Sealand has announced the grand opening of its very own online
casino gambling site, SealandCasino.com. What’s interesting in this case is that
the tiny Island off the coast of Great Britain actively proclaims itself as its
own state – even though no other country in the world recognizes it as such. But
in going with the flow the “world’s smallest state” has announced the release of
a completely legitimate online casinos site operating on the Microgaming
platform.
Interestingly, the online casinos site is a new development for the small state,
before that Sealand was a military fort which now is owned by a former British
Army Major, Paddy Roy Bates. Bates is adamant that Sealand is its own sovereign
jurisdiction though both the U.S. and Germany have ruled that it is actually
territory belonging to Great Britain.
Perhaps the best part about the new Sealand online casino is that the owners of
the site have a sense of humor. As the site is brand new and just beginning to
accept players, a message announced to gamblers: "The Royal Family of Sealand’s
high regard for the loyalty of its subjects is extended towards all Sealand
Casino users, with players gaining Loyalty Points each time they place a bet,"
says a tongue-in-cheek statement from the Principality. These can then be
redeemed for credits in the casino or cashed out as required. Tax-free winnings
will be privately transferred in any currency to any account in the world." And
by “Royal Family” the online casinos site means the maximum of ten island
occupants that exist in the state of Sealand.
Sealand’s new site is not expected to cause any major waves in the online casino
industry because Great Britain does allow internet gambling so there is no
reason for it to come to a territorial dispute…because at that point perhaps
Bates would be taking the whole situation a tad far. As it stands, Sealand
Casino is a celebration of the 40th anniversary of sovereignty.
