Brear Moves to Gibraltar
The Gibraltar Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) is gaining a new key executive
this coming October as the Chief Executive has announced the appointment of the
new head of the GRA. The position was recently vacated and Phill Brear will now
oversee the online casino operations in Gibraltar rather than his current
position in the UK. Online casinos regulations in the UK have changed and take
effect on September 1, 2007; but the UK Gambling Commission will have to go on
without Brear and his expertise as the Director of Operations as Brear prepares
to make the move to Gibraltar.
The online casino industry is changing rapidly, and will only continue to do so
in the coming years. Gibraltar is extremely well-known in the “e-gambling
industry” as the “hub of a global industry that aspires to the highest standards
in socially responsible and transparent services,” says Paul Canessa, a chief
executive at the GRA. Canessa also notes Brear’s previous experience in the
online casinos industry and comments, “Phill brings strength in depth from his
role as one of the top team with the UK Gambling Commission."
Brear’s experience at the UK Gambling Commission allowed him to truly shape the
UK’s policy, implementation, and standards regarding online casinos. He has
extensive international business experience and the honed business sense of
someone who has managed huge numbers of employees and billion dollar companies.
He makes the move to Gibraltar with plans to further develop Gibraltar’s
position in the online casinos industry. He comments, “Gibraltar has a first
class reputation in these areas and as the industry comes under increasing
demand and international scrutiny we must ensure that reputation goes from
strength to strength. I am keen to build on the strong and productive
relationships we have with all our operators, including our traditional gambling
operators, and work with them to move our position forward."
