New Gambling Options at Yahoo!
Yahoo! has now become one of the online Internet Service Providers (ISP) to add
online casino gambling options. Though other ISPs offer gambling options, none
previously involved the use of real games where players are actually wager their
own money. The other ISPs like AOL offer Web sites using “play money” in their
gambling; even Windows Vistas offers “play money” options. But now Yahoo! has
broken the mold and will be operating online poker through the International
Poker Network.
Though Yahoo’s online poker Web site is not a true online casino as of yet,
perhaps if this venture proves successful globally they will consider expanding
their options even more. The Yahoo! online casino poker is offered through a
partnership they previously announced with St. Minver, Ltd., a respected and
trusted online solutions provider for many European based gaming networks.
Unfortunately for Yahoo!, the company can only offer their new online casinos
poker gambling to the European market and perhaps Asia and other parts of the
world in the coming years. But the United States does not benefit from the
online poker because of the US’s Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.
Yahoo! cannot offer US citizens the right to gamble on the Web site because
there is no way to process the online tranactions. The UIGEA restricts financial
institutions (namely the banks holding US players money) from accepting any form
of transaction with online casinos, and any other online gambling sites.
So because of these considerations, the main thrust of advertising and hopes for
this web site is the European poker market, and perhaps they could win over some
players from online casinos that offer less accessible interfaces and platforms
than the Yahoo! site.
