A Look at World Online Casino Regulations

Now that the United States has made online casinos and online gambling illegal, Antigua and Barbuda, along with the World Trade Organization are revamping the regulations governing online casino sites.   Though the results of their review are not yet released, they are expecting to release the new online gambling regulations in the coming month

Specifically, the divisions that control gaming on these two island are using the World Trade Organization’s recommendations to revamp all of the existing regulations the islands use to control online casino Web sites.  Antigua and Barbuda won their recent case brought before the WTO, but that doesn’t mean that the United States is budging on their ban on online casinos and all forms of online gambling.  For these reasons, the rest of the world is adjusting to the U.S. new policy.

These adjustments include: new regulations, new head quarters for many online casino companies, new policy regarding online transactions, and more.  Recently, the Financial Services Regulatory Commission attended a symposium with the WTO regarding the pending regulations, and according to the Director of Gaming, Kaye McDonald, “That went very, very well.”

McDonald went on to assess the impact of the symposium,

We had a one day symposium last week. We had a very interactive and robust session but at the end of the whole day we came out with very comprehensive regulations," Director of Gaming Kaye MacDonald said. "I think it’s balanced. It keeps in mind national best practices while at the end of the day incorporating the commercial realities of our operators.  Substantively, the regulations still remain but Antigua & Barbuda, being one of the pioneers within the Internet gaming environment, is always endeavoring to enforce the international best practices and industry standards. The process is always evolving.

Part of the symposium focused on how to tighten online casinos companies control over their online gambling business, and over who precisely gambles on their Web sites.  Another focus of the symposium discussed ethical practices in the online casino industry.
