U.S. Law Shuts Down Online Casino Company
Harrods is a household name for all gamblers across United States, and even into
the rest of the world. And it is no different for online casino gamblers—Harrods
is a trusted name in the industry and the previous Web sites owned by this
industry giant are no longer up and running because of the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) the United States passed just over six months
ago.
The online casino (Harrodscasino.com) was very popular among VIP players, says
Kismet International. This company operated and provided software for the Web
site. The online casino was closed to all players effective March , 2007, and
according to the Harrods Online Casino Web site, and they players will be able
to access and withdraw the money they had attached to that Web site for a little
longer. Similar to the Virgin games closure in Canada just this past month,
Harrods Casino closed down rather abruptly according to some; they had hardly
heard the news before they out that they had to withdraws funds ASAP.
According to the spokesperson for Kismet International: "While we are
disappointed to see Harrods' exit the online casino business, we respect
Harrods' decision, which was made in light of the uncertain regulatory
environment in the online gaming industry. Kismet will continue to operate its
Red Lounge Casino.com as well as launch additional casinos."
