Where are Canada's Online Casinos?

Many Canadians are just plain confused now that Virgin Games announced that they are no longer accepting Canadian transactions for online casinos. Though online casinos and online gambling are illegal in the United States, that is not the case in Canada, that’s why many citizens just don’t understand why all of the online companies and e-wallets are withdrawing from the country.

Virgin Games is just the latest of the companies suddenly turning tail and leaving the country. The e-wallet NETeller no longer processes Canadian transactions from online casinos and any internet gambling Web sites (they also do not process transactions from the United States). Also included in the pull-outs are English Harbour and VIP groups. Now that Virgin Games is leaving though, many citizen demand to know what is going on because as far as the citizens were told, there are no anti-online casino laws in Canada.

Recently rumors have surface that the U.S. Department of Justice is in collaboration with the national Royal Canadian Mounted Police to cut down on the online casinos, but as of right now, that is still a unsubstantiated rumor. But what is true, is that the Canadian Mounted Police are asking questions of various businesses operating out of Canada; and a visit by the Police has frequently followed by a quick exit on the part of the business.

Now that Virgin Games has confirmed they are ceasing operations (that means all transactions at online casinos and online gambling) within Canada, they have announced to all their former clients that they have until April 13, 2007 to remove their funds from their Virgin Games accounts. Also, Virgin Games has given April 9, 2007 as the last day Canadian account holders can gamble at online casinos through Virgin. Their statement to the public was as follows:

Due to recent developments in the global Internet gaming environment and following a review of the legalities of online gaming within Canada, we have determined that it is inappropriate for us to continue accepting online wagers from Canada. If you use NETeller to transact with us you will need to withdraw any remaining funds in your account before the 9th April 2007.
