The U.S. Attorney's Office Investigates

The United States is serious about the online casino gambling restrictions, so companies that are operating payment processors should be prepared for an investigation. The latest investigation from the U.S. Attorney’s Office focus on the payment processing company Optimal Group, Inc. Though the Attorney’s Office is not accusing the company of illegally processing online casino gambling monies through U.S. financial institutions, the Office is conducting an official search and questioning.

The company operates primarily in North America and the UK, and has many subsidiary and affiliate companies that handle different types of online payment processing. Two specific affiliated companies, Optimal Payments and FirePay are under investigation. Right now, the Attorney’s Office has issued a “voluntary request” for specific information and details about the company’s transactions. But in addition to the supposed request, the U.S. Attorney’s Office has also secured warrants of seizure for the Optimal Group.

Basically, it seems that the U.S. is on a witch hunt for any company now violating the infamous UIGEA. Payment processors based out of the United States are very aware that doing business with any online casinos or internet gambling companies directly violates U.S. law. But despite the hype, and the recent media coverage of FBI investigations and companies going to trial for illegal activities, somehow Americans are still able to gamble online – and the Attorney’s Office is determined to hunt down the payment processors still working with the online casinos.
