Macau Surpasses Vegas and Online Casinos

Just last year many gambling experts predicted that in the coming years, Macau would surpass Las Vegas as the number one gambling spot in the world. And it seems like it simply didn’t take as long as predicted. The 2006 year-end figures indicate that Macau’s gross revenue for 2006 puts Macau ahead of Las Vegas. Part of this is the online casino industry’s new focus on the Asian market, more and more companies are using Macau as a launching pad for internet gambling activities in China and other Asian countries.

According to the year-end figures, in terms of land-based, not online casinos, revenue, the Las Vegas Strip reported US $6.6 billion. Compare that to the Macau total year-end revenue that exceeded US $7 billion. And in the coming years, Macau will only continue to report increased revenue because of the extensive expansion plans most companies have for 2007 and beyond.

PacificNet is one online casino company that has uses Macau as a base for land-based and internet gambling operations. Others though are quickly following suit. Beyond that though, Macau is just a great destination spot for gambling enthusiasts. With the economy booming, a great location, and a wide range of land-based casinos, visitors have a huge range of options if they vacation in Macau.

Victor Tong is the president of online casinos gaming provider PacificNet and he recently commented on the expanding gambling market in Macau and the rest of Asia. He says, "We believe that China's internet and mobile gaming and entertainment market will surge in the coming years as a result of the expected launch of 3G services. We expect strong synergies among PacificNet's group of companies in the mobile e-commerce and gaming areas."
