Advertising Deal under Scrutiny Spain seems to be cracking down on the online casinos that may have illegally signed sponsorship deals with two of Spain’s leading sports teams, Seville and Real Madrid FC. Bwin and 888.com are the two online casino companies raising concerns.
According to a watchdog group in Spain, Asociación de Usuarios de la Comunicación (AUC), the online casinos may have violated at least eight laws in using their logos on the sports teams’ jerseys. According to the AUC, online casino gambling groups are not allowed to promote their internet gambling services in Spain – and by blazenly displaying their logos on shirts, they are in violation of this legislation.
To rectify the situation, now that this is the second time the AUC has dealt with this issue, the watchdog group filed a formal complaint with Spain’s Ministry of Economy and Taxes. To that end, once the Ministry is involved, and a firm ruling handed down on the issue, AUC is hoping that the online casinos will stop their advertising efforts within Spain’s borders.
Though they two football teams in question have only been reprimanded for displaying the online casino logos, AUC has notified them that there could be further repercussions if their sponsorship deal is indeed determined illegal.
