Rank Focuses on Online Casino Gambling Market After a successful first quarter, the Rank gambling group announced that it is now focusing the company on the online casino and gambling market in Europe. Rank ranked number two in size of casino gambling groups in the UK, and has recently sold off company holdings that were not a part of the online casinos industry. Speculation is that the company made the firm choice to focus on internet and land-based gambling for two main reasons – strong first quarter results and a booming gambling market.
With the first quarter results in, Rank shares have increased almost 5 percent. The company’s operating profit grew faster than expected as did a division of rank, Blue Square, which is the online casino and internet gambling division. Blue Square seems to be benefiting by a the internet gambling boom in Europe right now, and announced 37 percent revenue growth for the first quarter of 2007.
On the other end though, Rank is involved it the land-based bingo industry, but that is suffering with new smoking bans in place in Scotland. But to that end, the gambling industry is where Rank is placing the brunt of the company’s focus, going so far as to sell the hotel, casino chain, and even a Hard Rock restaurant as a way to really allow the company to take advantage of the exponential growth in online casinos.
