Letters Could Help

The United States is on the precipice of some major changes regarding online casinos and internet gambling in the country. Though Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) is the only firm piece of legislation stating the U.S.’s stance on the issue, that could be eradicated in just a few months with the right backing. Some of the state representatives have many other pressing concerns that they want to give voice to in Congress, but truthfully, the internet gambling regulations is a viable topic, the Congressmen just need to know that the people care about this issue and really want to implement changes in online casinos regulations.

For those who aren’t really following the current debate and U.S. legislation, a synopsis is in order. The UIGEA was a bill attached to the must-pass Safe Ports Act by Bill Frist at that the last minute so that there was no choice but to pass the legislation and deal with the outcome later. To that end, the UIGEA does not appear to consider the U.S.’s best interests at all. In truth, Barney Franks legislation could be the best option at this point. Frank is pressing for licensing and regulating the internet gambling industry so that not only can the government protect the nation’s morals, the U.S. would get a piece of the profit – and by piece I mean a chunk of the $15.5 billion industry.

And quite simply, the U.S. would only benefit from the new legislation and bill because the UIGEA has NOT stopped online casinos from accessing the U.S. market. Internet gamblers based out of the U.S. still have dozens of sites that have found ways to circumvent the U.S. financial institutions. So the U.S. just effectively lost any control that they used to have over internet gambling and are allowing the gambling profits to go to foreign countries.

And beyond that, the U.S. has the power to effect the change, but because of a few congressmen adamantly against online casino gambling, the entire U.S. is forced to fly under the raider when gambling at online casinos. But if online casinos gamblers want to be a part of effecting change in the country they can write letters to their Congressmen urging action on this issue.
