Future Leader Changed the Landscape of Online Casino Gambling

By all accounts Gordon Brown is the shoe-in contender as the Prime Minister’s successor, despite recent media speculation that current Prime Minister, Tony Blair disapproves of Brown because of his plans and implementation of new online casino and gambling regulations in the United Kingdom. Just in the past two years, Brown has dramatically altered the gambling landscape in the UK – and though some had opposition to the plan, years later, Brown is claiming a success since the UK is a gambling Mecca bringing in billions each year to the government.

Several factors have led to the UK’s current status as reigning king of the online casino industry. In just the last eight months all of Europe saw an enormous boost in internet gambling because of the United State’s restrictions. But beyond that outside influence, Brown really did reorganize and restructure the way gambling and online casinos were handled in the UK.

The governmental platform that he has shaped is one that while imposing restrictions on the industry, still allows enough room for the online casinos, and the gambling industry as a whole, to truly flourish. Brown implemented a different tax structure to the online casinos and betting industry that while at first seemed severe meant greater profit and stabilization in the long-run. His ideas were so new and fresh that some were even commenting of how positive the future of betting looked in the country. Says Simon Clare, an industry expert, “The U.K. could become the hub of a global betting industry.”

The online casinos and land-based sites have certainly flourished in the passing years, but now, restrictions that will take effect toward the end of 2007 are drawing hostility from the companies. By and far though, the majority of the internet gambling sites are thriving in the UK’s current climate of regulations and tax incentives from the online casino companies.
