Online Casino Exec's Don't Show Up

The annual Interactive Gaming Summit & Expo in Montreal saw a significant decrease in convention attendants this year. The Gambling Summit is considering a highlight of the year for many top individuals involved in the online casino gaming industry, but this year most of those high ranking executives chose to stay in the safety of their country rather than venture out up to Montreal for the convention. Most in the online casinos industry cite the U.S.’s Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act as the primary reason for lack of attendance at the event.

The Summit is traditionally a classy event – as it should be considering the wealth involved in the online casinos industry. But now that the U.S.’s anti-internet gambling legislation and subsequent enforcement has made national headlines, many decided to keep a low profile this year. Just in the last couple of months the U.S. has begun prosecuting high level executives involved in online casino businesses servicing American gamblers. For that reason, some internet gambling executives didn’t want to risk their flight to Montreal taking an emergency landing in the U.S.

This year’s event boasted less than half the number of event attendees than last year’s, which has many speculating that the UK summit could become much larger if the missing Montreal attendees join the UK summit. Others though attribute the loss of attendees to all of the online casinos that were forced out of the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean – or had to shut down operations because they lost such a large percentage of their revenue.
