IGREA Adds Three More At this point it seems that Barney Frank’s Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) is gaining momentum of its own. Just this week aids for Frank’s newest proposal announced that the total politicians on board with IGREA have increased by three to a whopping grand total of 35. Frank’s bill is unique right now because would provide for an immediate solution to the worldwide issue with the online casino gambling ban in the United States known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).
The online casinos ban is one of the more controversial pieces of recent U.S. legislation and has raised international concern. The World Trade Organisation has even stepped into the international dispute, but to that end, the U.S. has not ceded to the authority of the WTO. Instead, the U.S. Department of Justice has come up with other ways to circumvent the WTO’s ruling – and in the process has begun to alienate many countries that are threatening U.S. patents and secured trading.
But there are some ways out of this current predicament – namely, Frank’s new bill HR 2046. IGREA proposes that the United States bring welcome online casino gambling back into the U.S. – but to address the political concerns, the industry would now be licensed and regulated. Though Wexler and Berkley also have current bills that would address the UIGEA, IGREA is the most progressive and deals with the entirety of the issue – although all three bills are a step in the right direction.
And with the three new politicians on board for licensing and regulating the online casinos, IGREA is in a great position only months after Frank announced the Bill to Congress. The current political supporters;
