Carruthers Runs for Charity

After 18 months on house arrest for online casino gambling and betting charges, what else does the former CEO of BetonSports have to do to pass the time than raise money for a marathon he will run next month. David Carruthers was arrested in July of 2006 on accusations of illegal gambling activities in the U.S. along with several other felony charges that claim that Carruthers has violated U.S. policy and legislation through his company, BetonSports (BoS).

So as the online casinos and betting debacle continues, and Carruthers just sits in his Missouri house, he has decided to use his international notoriety to benefit his chosen charity and to raise money through a marathon that he has been training to participate in next month.

Carruthers granted an interview with the editor of a prominent online casinos news site, Interactive Gaming News. Editor Mark Balestra spoke with Carruthers about his what he has occupied his time with over the past year and a half, and about the marathon he has announced he will run right in St. Louis (this is where he is living out his house arrest). Not much of Carruthers’ case was discussed for legal reasons, the online casinos industry is tough and Carruthers was not at liberty to discuss much of the defense case his lawyers are preparing.

Carruthers chose his charities with care, he was looking to raise money for something that would benefit children, but in the end went with the charities that are associated with the marathon that he will run for next month. And as for what the online casinos industry can do to help, Carruthers has set up a Web site with information on both his current case with the U.S., and information to benefit the two charities he will run for in a mere matter of weeks.
