An Unfortunate Link for Mendelsohn Jon Mendelsohn was just appointed as the Director of Fundraising for the Labour Party. But just as Mendelsohn is undoubtedly celebrating, unfavorable links to the online casino industry and sex chat-line industry are surfacing and the British Sunday Telegraph is at the front of the line crying foul. Specific links to the online casinos gambling group PartyGaming are called into question, and Mendelsohn and the Labour Party are on the defensive providing the public with answers.
It basically comes down to Mendelson’s open support of the online casinos industry – everything ranging from betting to internet gambling. And this appointment comes on the heels of Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s veto of legislation that would have brought more land-based gambling to England (specifically the planned Manchester supercasino). Many are just confused about the message that Brown is sending to supporters. On the one hand he has begun to demand more from the online casino and land-based gambling industries in the form of increased demands and enforced legislation. Then on the other hand, Mendelsohn is appointed in spite of direct links to lobbying firm LLM – which has participated in online casino gambling lobbying.
The newspaper reports Mendelsohn’s link with LLM (a co-founder of the company) and then notes other more pressing connections. The links with questionable companies comes after the announcement from the Labour Party and the links tie Mendelsohn to Parasol (a co-founding of the online casino gambling group PartyGaming) and Internet Entertainment Group (IEG). According to the Telegraph, IEG “[offers] paying customers real-time footage of women stripping.”
But through all of the speculation and allegations against Mendelsohn, Mendelsohn remains positive and reassures those concerns that he will sever all of the previous and questionable companies ties.
